Elevate Theatre Company LLC is theater for health. We have a mission to create space for audiences and artists to explore health and well-being through the art of storytelling. Elevate is the only theater company in New York City providing free programming with an explicit vision of improving health and well-being through storytelling. We partner with established health and wellness organizations, professional playwrights and artists, and expert panelists to support audience engagement and action planing post-performance. We also host storytelling workshops for participants of all ages, leveraging theater-based activities to engage participants in sharing their authentic stories, promoting healthy habits, and improving communication. Elevate was founded on the belief that storytelling is a powerful, healing community activity. We believe that access to health and the arts is a human right. We believe in boundless artistic expression. We believe in accessible, reliable, and accurate health information provided by experts. We believe in promoting underrepresented narratives. Our founder and executive director, Christina D. Eskridge, MPH has over a decade of experience in both healthcare and the performing arts sectors. Christina has a Master’s Degree in Public Health from UC Berkeley, and has worked as a healthcare consultant in safety net facilities, on large scale public health projects, and at one of the largest health systems in the country, Kaiser Permanente. Additionally, Christina is a performing artist, playwright, director and teaching artist, working for small and large theater organizations around the country and serving a variety of audiences.
